Why city motorists will have to wait longer for Sonko’s Sh150 parking fee
Motorists in Nairobi will have to wait longer for Governor Mike Sonko’s reduced parking fees.
Governor Sonko explained on Wednesday that the Nairobi County Assembly is yet to be sworn in and he cannot amend Finance Bill.
He, however, promised to fast-track the amendment once the Assembly is in session.
Mr Sonko spoke at a meeting with the Matatu Owners Association at City Hall.
He said he would address the issue of parking fees, bus park fees, stage fees and other issues affecting the public transport sector.
Governor Sonko had pledged during the campaigns to reduce parking fees by half should he win.
In the interim, the director of parking services Fredrick Ndunyu has urged motorists to pay the Sh300 parking fee.
“Motorists are being advised to pay the stipulated fees until further notice. We are on the lookout,” said Mr Ndunyu.
Parking services include 3,000 special parking zones in the city, matatus terminus and general
parking areas within Nairobi City.
