Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly shared his excitement with what he described as the success of his campaign against illicit brew, drugs, and narcotics, which he initiated after assuming office.

According to the DP, the campaign is yielding positive results, as seen by what he said is a significant increase in the number of pregnant women from Central Kenya.

He made these remarks when he hosted residents of his Mathira hometown at a Christmas celebrations luncheon at his residence on December 26, 2023.

The feeding gesture, is aimed at celebrating the holiday season with the locals, Gachagua said.

“A few days ago, I gathered people in my home, including parents, to come and collect flour, oil… About 10, 000 locals turned up. I requested them to queue according to pregnant women and those with children to receive the food donations. The children were crying… I was very happy,” said the Deputy President.

“I said again, those who are expecting (meaning pregnant women) should step forward. The queue was even longer. I am very proud; our community is coming back. We have children being born. We have expectant women who are yet to give birth so that our community can continue to grow,” he explained, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Known for his outspoken comments, Gachagua served as Mathira lawmaker before he replaced William Ruto as Deputy President.

He has previously served as the personal assistant of former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Upon assuming office, the DP and his better half Pastor Dorcas embarked on the campaign to combat illicit brew and drug abuse.

He launched an operation in Central Kenya, instructing police bosses and local chiefs to enforce the order without hesitation.

He lamented the effects of illicit alcohol, claiming, it had led to men in the Central Region losing interest in siring children.

Central is among the regions adversely impacted by illicit brew and drug abuse in the country.
