Why Kenyan men are being randomly praised on Twitter
For years now, Kenyan men haven’t been the recipients of well-meaning compliments, no matter what number they were ranked as the most romantic in Africa or stereotyped as mean men with harsh streaks, boasting of tight-fisted hands when it came to finances.
However, the tune appears to be changing after a Kenyan content creator heaped praises on Kenyan men, leading to a barrage of surprising, if not random, compliments for men who are often accused of being unromantic, unfeeling and sometimes, not so handsome.
“A Kenyan man will wake up send you money to buy a drink because it’s Friday & drinks need to be had. He will take you out on dinner & walk you to your Uber which he will pay. Most men in the West don’t do that. We need to tell Kenyan stories coz we are living exceptional lives,” Chichi Koech tweeted.

Following her tweet, many spoke up in defense of the misunderstood Kenyan man as sampled below:
“In 2019 some friends and I went out for drinks with a German post-grad student who was studying one semester at UoN. She was surprised that men pay for drinks when they take girls out! I think they always split bills in Germany. She very much enjoyed the treat.” Wayne Owino said.
To this Andalia Maureen responded: “It’s a very painful experience to discover, having lived most of my life in Kenya. To come here and split bills with men, or carry my own bags. Lord. Eiiiiii.”
“Mimi hadi nikalipiwa rent bila kutaja (One man even paid for my rent without me even broaching the subject). 50K M-Pesa because he thought I was beautiful. Kikuyu men have really raised the bar,” tweeted Fluffy Cookie.

“Let’s be honest. They don’t do it for free. Besides from observation, women in the West are extremely independent and never let a man pay for their sh** , they might even take offense when you give them money. Many exceptions of course,” said Beach Tourist.
“Most men in which West you dwell in don’t do that! Perhaps your man or men you date are just that!” said Tony Roufajani.
“An honest men like myself. Us those! You get baby girl treatment before I go back home to my wife!” said Batmanesque.
“I thought it was sarcasm at first. Anyway, maybe the West is a fair place for women; they don’t need anything paid for them. Poverty is low and they are brought up to be independent,” Munuve 10 chimed in.
