Why men are reluctant to educate their wives

Throughout generations, men have traditionally held the role of family leadership, providing guidance and support, especially to their wives.

Numerous women can attest that they pursued higher education thanks to the encouragement and support of their husbands.

The camaraderie and assistance between couples were particularly evident in the education of millennials.

Many considerate husbands facilitated their wives’ education, while others assisted in launching and managing businesses for them.

These husbands firmly believed that educating their wives ensured a brighter future for their children.

However, it appears that GenZ holds a different perspective, as some believe that investing in their wives’ education is akin to wasting money, given the possibility of being abandoned at any time.

Many of them making it a point of reference to draw from Stela wangu song, mulling the betrayal of Stella

Women have been labeled as formidable, leading some to caution against them, even prompting the creation of songs emphasizing the need to be wary of women.

Kennedy Omondi, a resident of Nairobi, shared his views on the matter, saying, “I wouldn’t send a woman, even my wife, to school. Many women change once they’re educated, no longer valuing their partners who empowered them. Some even leave their husbands after considerable effort has been made to educate them. If women were faithful and submissive, I might reconsider, but current trends don’t favor that.”

Stephen Okumu expressed a different stance, stating, “I don’t mind educating my wife, but she must first be the mother of my children before I consider it. If we don’t have children together, I wouldn’t even think about it. However, if she has my children, I would educate and empower her, so she’s well-prepared to take care of my children in case of anything. Many men neglect to educate their wives, leaving them vulnerable in the event of death. It’s crucial to empower one another.”

While many men are approaching this matter cautiously, their decisions to withhold empowerment from their wives have left many vulnerable in cases of death or accidents. Women who were accustomed to being provided for must suddenly become breadwinners, leading to considerable strain and stress on their families.

It is essential for men to take the initiative to empower their families, rather than hoarding their knowledge and wisdom.
