Why Obama’s Marine One, aircraft landed at Kenyatta University

Kenyatta University (KU) has staged a ‘coup’ against University of Nairobi (UoN) following announcement that President Barack Obama will give a lecture at the Thika Road-based institution.

President Obama’s Marine One and three Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft that will carry naval SEALs landed at KU as part of preparations for the trip.

Marine One is the call sign of any United States Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President of the United States.

President Obama is usually flown in one of the helicopters that landed at KU Tuesday.

President Obama will on Sunday give a lecture to Members of Parliament as well as women, youth and student leaders at KU before flying or driving to Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani for the public talk.

A week ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta rapped Students Organization of Nairobi University chairman Babu Owino who had written a letter to the US embassy claiming that 18 ‘comrades’ had threatened to commit suicide if President Obama does not visit UoN.

Others, Babu said, would urinate on a tree planted by the US president in 2006 when visited the country as a senator and gave a public address at the Kenya’s premier institution.
