Williamson rallies his troops

Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson has challenged the team’s forwards to replicate their impressive domestic form on the international scene.

Speaking to Nairobi News ahead of a busy and crucial schedule for the national football team in the coming months, the Scottish coach also insisted he will solely focus on one match at a time.

Stars who have not graced any continental sporting event for the past decade, will play former African champions Zambia in Nairobi on September 5 in the qualifying rounds of the 2017 African Nations Cup.

The nation team will thereafter commence its qualification campaign for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in October, with a two-leg tie against Mauritius in October.

FOCUS ON ZAMBIA

“All our focus is against Zambia at the moment. We will sit down and strategize against Mauritius after the game against Zambia, you know there are no easy games in Africa,” Williamson said.

Williamson will almost certainly rely on newly signed Azam FC forward Allan Wanga, KPL top scorer Jesse Were who is rumoured to be on the verge of joining a top flight club in South Africa, Gor Mahia’s Micheal Olunga, Belgium based Ayub Timbe and Jacob Keli currently featuring in the Zambian league to provide the goals against Zambia and Mauritius.

“It is positive to note that our strikers are churning out impressive performances in various domestic leagues, they now need to transfer this confidence to national team. We need the goals,” the coach noted.

Williamson and his technical bench are hoping for a turnaround following the team’s recent elimination from the Olympic Games qualifiers as well as the All Africa Games and Africa Nations Championship qualifiers.
