Willis Raburu: Kenyans are scrambling for unga because cost of living is too high
Media personality, Willis Raburu has supported Kenyans who scrambled for maize flour after a lorry ferrying the product overturned near Ole Sereni Hotel along Mombasa Road on Friday.
Raburu has said that the cost of living in the country is so high and Kenyans don’t need to be blamed for scrambling for the ‘free’ unga.
In his social media page, the Citizen TV presenter said as long as one is an adult, they are expected to return home with a packet of food and food.
He said that on reaching home with the ‘stolen’ unga, no one will enquire where it came from because all they want is food on the table.

“The video of Kenyans scrambling for Unga may be disturbing to some but it’s a reality, times are hard. When they show up at home, no one will ask where it came from. They will sleep with dignity and on full stomachs. Such is the delicate balance of life,” said Raburu.
He also called on the government to make things better for Kenyans.
“Things should get better,” said Raburu.

His remarks came a day after members of the public were captured on video carting away bales of the commodity from the scene of the accident, with some using boda boda.
The incident is said to have happened around 11am after the drive of the lorry lost control and the vehicle overturned near the hotel.
The lorry, which was travelling from Mombasa to Kisumu, had flour estimated to be worth Sh2.5 million.
The scramble was a testament to how Kenyans are struggling to afford flour, which is currently retailing at between Sh180 and Sh210.
