Woman arrested for daughter’s torture, murder in bedroom
Residents of Gikingi village in Nyandarua West sub-county are still in shock following the brutal murder of a four year-old girl by her mother.
The minor was during the weekend found hanging from a rope in her mother’s bedroom. Her body had several injuries.
On Monday, tens of grief-stricken mourners flooded the home to console the relatives as they expressed displeasure over the incident.
Area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Joseph Cheruiyot said the girl’s mother is the prime suspect and is aiding police in investigations before being charged in court.
He said his officers are set to complete investigations and that she will be charged with murder.
Reuben Mwangi, a village elder, told the Nation, the 23 year-old woman has a history of abusing the child.
“She seemed to have something against the child. We have severally warned her against abusing that child. She seemed to dislike her for reasons we do not know,” said the village elder.
A resident Lydia Waithera narrated to the Nation the girl’s last hours.
”The minor had earlier visited my home where she played with her age mates, she was very jovial before she was called by her mother, that was the last time I saw her alive,” she said.
She said she witnessed the girl’s brutal beating before everything went unusually silent.
She raised alarm attracting members of the public who found the body hanging from a rope in the bedroom.
The suspect had by then escaped but was later arrested by the policeand taken to Ol Joro Orok police station.
