Woman charged in court for assaulting her friend over Sh 2,700 debt
A woman, who allegedly rained blows on her friend in a dispute over an unpaid debt of Sh 2,700 debt, was on Monday charged before the Makadara Law Courts with assault and causing bodily harm.
Editta Wagathera is accused of assaulting Janet Wasera, a fruit vendor in Eastleigh, on December 18, 2019 and inflicting injuries on her.
INJURIES
Ms Wagathera allegedly injured the victim’s left eye as well as causing bruises on her.
Wagathera had gone to demand for the cash from Wasera but the latter said she didn’t have the money.
Wasera instead requested for two more days to offset the debt, but her pleas went unheeded.
The suspect allegedly descended on her with blows and fists, before pouring down the fruits Wasera was selling at the former Kenya Bus garage.
ARRESTED
Wasera sought treatment and reported the matter to the police leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The accused denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga.
She was released on a free bond after pleading for leniency claiming she has a special needs child and is jobless.
Hearing of the case starts on April 30, 2020.
