Woman denies assaulting tenant in rent dispute


A city caretaker who allegedly struck her tenant with a glass bottle inflicting a cut on his face denied assault charges at the Makadara Law Courts and claimed the complainant is her husband.

Ms. Florence Atieno was charged with assaulting and causing actual bodily injuries to Gilbert Onyango in Pipeline Estate, Embakasi within Nairobi on October 4.

Mr. Onyango was returning home when he met Ms. Atieno who confronted him asking him why he had paid rent to a mobile money till number instead of paying in cash.

An argument ensued between the two before Ms. Atieno allegedly hit the complainant on his forehead inflicting a cut on his face.

Members of the public intervened after Mr. Onyango raised an alarm and he was rescued.

He later made a report at Kware police station where he was advised to seek treatment first.

Ms. Atieno was later traced and arrested.

She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi. She was released on a cash bail of Sh30, 000.

The case will be mentioned on November 10.

In the same court, a man was charged with assaulting a boda boda rider.

Pineck Momanyi is accused of unlawfully beating up and causing bodily injuries to Samuel Nyamai Kimilu in Pipeline, Nairobi on September 23.

Momanyi also denied the charges.

He was released on a bond of Sh50, 000. The case will be mentioned on December 6 before hearing starts on May 16 next year.
