Woman in trouble for torching husband’s house – VIDEO

A woman who is reported to have burnt down her estranged husband’s house in Nairobi has been charged with arson after the fire extended to their neighbour’s house and partly destroyed it.

Esther Mummy Webisa is charged with arson contrary to section 332 of the penal code where she is accused of setting fire to two dwelling houses.

She is also accused of causing damage worth Sh4, 821,200 on Fulgence Gaspe Assenga and Stella Mkafitina Assenga’s house in Akiba in South C estate which was partly destroyed by the fire.

Her husband’s house was extensively damaged before the fire spread to the next house.

Wembisa had travelled from Bungoma on October 28 to visit her husband whom they have been estranged.

On arrival, security guards told her to make a call to the house she was visiting to confirm she was going there but her call to her husband went unanswered.

She jumped over the fence to gain entry into the compound and went to her husband’s house.

She is said to have injured him on the hand and he went to make a report at the nearby police station but while at the station, he received a call that there was fire at his house.

Police and Nairobi Metropolitan Services officers rushed to the scene and put out the fire but the damage had already been done.

Webisa was arrested. At the court, the occupant of the house said through a lawyer that she was nearly killed in the house as she is disabled and was rescued by neighbours.

The suspect was freed on a Sh1 million bond. The case will be mentioned on November 18.
