Woman nursing rotting wounds after scalding by monster husband – VIDEO

A 25 year-old woman has been rushed to hospital with rotting wounds after she was scalded with hot water four months ago by her then husband.

Ms Tabitha Kanana, a mother of one, was attacked by Mr Bedan Kimathi in January while living with him in Kiambu.

She was rescued by well-wishers who took her to her parents’ home in Meru but was not taken to hospital due to lack of funds.

“I was living with him and we had some differences. On the fateful day, we had quarreled. As I was trying to get out of the house, he poured hot water on my body,” Ms Kanana said.

She is currently admitted at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Ms Zipporah Mwangi, a nurse at the hospital, said the woman had deep burns on the chest which were rotting by the time she was brought to hospital.

SURGICAL PROCEDURE

“We have managed her condition and she is now doing well. She is set for a surgical procedure to remove the dead tissues,” Ms Mwangi said.

Ms Gacheri Muthuri, who rescued the patient from her parents’ home, said they learnt that she had been bed ridden for four months.

“We laud members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative from Mitunguu who raised alarm over Ms Kanana’s condition. We found her helpless and her body was with pus,” she said.

Ms Karambu Kailemia, who offered to foot the medical bill, called on the police to ensure the suspect is brought to book.

“It is saddening that the suspect is still at large four months after he committed the crime. Police should up their game in dealing with cases of rape and domestic violence that are on the rise. Most victims do not find justice due to stigma,” Ms Kailemia said.

She said there was need for establishment of active call centres across the county where cases of rape and domestic violence can be reported and addressed.
