Woman on the spot for beating up husband’s lover


A woman who allegedly roughed up her friend whom she accused of having an affair with her husband has been charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the penal code.

Ms Jane Atieno was charged alongside her friend Ms Edwinah Awuor. The duo was accused of assaulting and injuring Joyce Achieng in Tushauriane area within Embakasi Central in Nairobi on April 9, 2023.

The two suspects stay in the same plot as the complainant and have been great friends until Ms Atieno reportedly learnt that her husband was involved in a love relationship with Ms Achieng.

Ms Atieno confronted Ms Achieng and an argument ensued between them where their friend intervened and prevented them from fighting.

The next day Ms Atieno went to Ms Achieng’s house and confronted her before Ms Awuor joined in allegedly assaulting the complainant.

Ms Achieng was rescued by her neighbours who intervened and dragged the accused persons away.

The two denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi of Makadara Law Courts.

They were released on a surety bond of Sh50, 000. The case will be mentioned on May 26, 2023, before hearing starts on November 21, 2023.

Neighbours who intervened will testify in the case. Ms Njagi encouraged them to seek out of court settlement with the complainant.
