Woman robbed by armed thugs in Waithaka on her way home from work


Police in Waithaka Police Station in Dagoretti Sub-County in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for three armed robbers who robbed a woman who was heading home from work.

According to the police, the victim, Ms Julia Wangui, had closed her shop at Pasie Villa area within Waithaka area when she was attacked by three young men.

The three suspects scared away members of the public who had responded to the woman’s distress call by shooting in the air three times.

The gang then robbed the woman of her handbag which contained money and a mobile phone. They then turned to her brother who is a boda boda rider and also robbed him of a mobile phone.

Police officers and detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and were informed that the robbers ran towards Kabiria Road.

The police said they recovered three 9mm caliber expended cartridges from the scene, although no one was injured during the incident.

Robbery cases have become common in Kabete and Dagoretti North area in the recent days. The gangsters are usually armed with firearms or knives.

According to a report on the state of crime in the country which was released four months ago, crime in Nairobi has been rising.

The report attributed these cases to the recent change in political leadership in the country that influenced a reshuffle within the security setup.

The report further stated that there has been a steady rise in armed and opportunist robberies in residential and commercial areas across Nairobi.
