Woman shot in latest daylight robbery in CBD

Thugs yesterday made away with an unknown amount of money in the latest daylight robbery in the heart of the city.

A woman was shot and seriously injured during the robbery outside the Ambassadeur Hotel bus stage.

She was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

It is believed that the unknown number of gangsters had trailed the woman from a bank where she had withdrawn the money and stuffed it into her  hand bag, said Central Police boss Patrick Oduma.

The gang tried to snatch the bag from the woman, but she had a firm grip on it and tried to fight them off.

They shot her on her right side and walked away with the money as the public ran for cover. “The gang escaped on foot and we have not managed to arrest any of its members.

We are however are following leads” Mr Oduma said.

The attack came only a day after it was revealed that criminals were increasingly impersonating police officers only to pretend to arrest and whisk their victims away in a car when they step out of a bank.

It is not clear how the gang knew that the woman had a large sum of money.

But police suspect that bank workers are colluding with criminals to give them targets.

On December 21, last year, two Chinese men were robbed of Sh2 million on Ngorongo Road in Karen, moments after they had withdrawn the cash.

Two days later, Mr Vijay Manjiwana, a businessman, was accosted by thugs and  robbed of Sh6 million which he had withdrawn from a bank.

According to the police, Nakumatt Moi Avenue, Afya Centre and Ngara are other hotspots for the criminals.

They are also said to be using beautiful women to distract their victims, mostly men before they strike.

Apart from banks, the criminals are also said to be surveying mobile money transfer agents.
