Woman whose hands were chopped off by monstrous husband to get artificial limbs
The woman whose husband is charged with chopping off her hands will be flown to South Korea on September 10 to be fitted with prosthetics.
Ms Jackline Mwende will go abroad because the prosthetics needed are not available locally, Kikuyu PCEA Hospital’s Dr Michael Maru said on Thursday.
According to Dr Maru, Ms Mwende was due to be discharged on Friday.
“The procedure will take about 10 days and she will return. We will then do a review at Kikuyu PCEA,” he said.
HOSPITAL BILLS
The chief orthopedic surgeon said they had operated to shorten the bones on her wrists and created a “muscle flap and rounded it” to make it easier for the prosthetics to be attached.
“We also treated her for infection in both arms. She was also kicked in the jaw and some teeth were loose and we removed five,” Dr Maru said.
Her new prosthetics are expected coordinate with her upper hand muscles to enable her feed herself, carry some objects, turn on electric switches and perform other light chores.
The limbs are designed to mimic the human anatomy as they rely on naturally generated muscle energy for movement.
Ms Mwende’s hospital and prosthetics bills will be paid by LG Electronics, a Korean company.
