Would you dine in the dark? Welcome to Gizani
There is now way place in town to enjoy dinner in a sort of weird but pleasant way – in the dark.
Gizani is Africa’s first dining in the dark experience, and if you thought it will be easy to get a reservation, think again.
Tickets have been flying off the wall since it started its operations in Kenya and even attracting the attention of the First Family, its safe to say its been a hit with the foodies.
The fine dining experience involves serving dishes in complete darkness. This heightens one’s senses and allows for a greater appreciation of the food and wine that is served.
The management of the restaurant says that through limiting the sense of sight, other senses are intensified as well as the relations between people.
Diners at Gizani have little knowledge of the entrées, appetizers, desserts, and wine choice of their meal, which is primarily inspired by French cuisine.
SUPPORT CHARITY
Diners are served by either blind or visually impaired wait-staff and a percentage of the profits support charities in different countries.
The whole concept of Dining in the Dark is one of the many growing attraction of Nairobi’s cosmopolitan culinary scene.
Despite only running once a week at the Tribe Hotel, Gizani has welcomed over 400 diners since it launched in late May.
The staff consists of 11 visually-impaired staff and three sighted employees, who work front of the house. A ticket for the whole experience will cost you Sh6,000.
