Why you need to update your WhatsApp

You may want to update your WhatsApp right away to be safe. The social media app has, according to the Financial Times, experienced a privacy breach in which a spy software was installed for some users.

The Financial Times reported that the code used in the hack was developed by Israeli company NSO Group even as the group denied responsibility saying its technology was purely for government intelligence services.

“This attack has all the hallmarks of a private company known to work with governments to deliver spyware that reportedly takes over the functions of mobile phone operating systems,” WhatsApp said in a statement.

Users have now been advised to update their app so as to avoid infiltration by the software that is being done using video calls to the targeted users.

The calls whether answered or not have the power to infiltrate the targeted user’s app with the spying software.

Ensure you update your app to the latest version that the developers say has fixed the loophole used by the spies.
