Youths storm City Hall to eject health executive from office – PHOTOS
There was drama at City hall after rowdy youths stormed the office of the County Executive for Health in a bid to hound him out.
They want Dr Bernard Muia to leave office over allegations of incompetence and micromanaging the health department.
Dr Muia was not in his office during the incident.
Speaking to Nairobi News, their leader Jonah Onyango said the youths have decided to hold all county departments accountable.
They accused Dr Muia of failing to reserve 30 per cent of tenders to youths, women and people with disability.
“We marched to this office to have a talk with the executive member, but he ran away. Seems like someone tipped him off,” said Mr Onyango.
He claimed Dr Muia had overstepped his mandate by appointing and transferring staff across the city.
He cited a case at Mbagathi Hospital where Dr Muia ignored the board’s choice and appointed someone else.
The County Executive told Nairobi News said he left the office to attend a health meeting at Lillian Towers. He said he will not let people deter him from executing his mandate.
“ I hear when I was in a function youths came in my office… I am in the office performing my duty, I will continue to execute my duties efficiently and effectively without fear of intimidation till the end of my term,” said Dr Muia.
“I have been in this department for two years. In Pumwani babies used to be stolen, no child has been stolen; 120 new bed capacity at Mbagathi; best mortuary is built in Mbagathi with a capacity of 112 bodies and I have turned 17 health facility to operate for 24 hours,”said Dr Muia.
