Zuchu, Burna Boy, Tems nominated for MTV EMA awards


Tanzanian singer Zuhura Othman Soud better known by her stage name Zuchu has become the first East African female artiste to earn a nomination in the prestigious MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs).

The Sukari hitmaker has been nominated in the Best African Act category alongside Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Ayra Starr, Tems, and Musa Keys.

Zuchu’s nomination at the prestigious MTV EMA comes a week after the Zanzibar born and raised, released her colossal new hit Kwikwi.

Reacting to her nomination, an excited Zuchu took to social media thanking her fans and attributing her success to them.

“Tanzania stand up your girl is nominated on the @mtvema God is good niseme asante ni kwa sababu yenu ndo mimi niko hapo nawapenda sana. I’m coming back with a better caption cos right now am still shaking let me calm down first,” her post read.

Reacting to her nomination, Zuchu’s boss Diamond Platnumz under the Wasafi Label went on to congratulate the beautiful songbird on the WCB Instagram page.

“Voting Time, Let’s Goooooooooo,” he wrote.

This is not the first time a Tanzanian artist has been nominated for the MTV EMA. In 2021 Diamond Platnumz was nominated but lost.

Previously he won the award in 2015 for the Best African Act and Africa and India Act.

In 2016 Ali Kiba won the African Act Category, in a controversial win that some perceived as a snub to Diamond.

Zuchu, now becomes the third Tanzanian singer and the first Tanzanian female artist to get nominated at the MTV EMAs.

The EMA awards is an event held annually to honor artists and music in pop culture and is sponsored by Paramount International Networks.

This year’s event will be held in Düsseldorf on November 13, 2022.
