Zuchu: How I met Diamond

By Freya Wanjiku December 13th, 2022 2 min read

Tanzanian Bongo Flava artiste Zuchu has opened up on who introduced her to Diamond Platnumz recording company.

In an interview, the Sukari hitmaker shared that her mother, legendary taarab singer, Khadija Kopa not only introduced her to the WCB label but also constantly reassured her of her talent.

“I used to sing in our house’s corridors and my mother would praise me but I went to an event that had real talent and felt as though I did not know how to sing,” she says.

Ms Khadija would then take her daughter to music training and though there were other labels that wanted to sign her in, Zuchu shares, “I rejected the offers and told my mom that I wanted to work with big names in the industry like Diamond.”

“One day my mom wanted to host an event in Morogoro and wanted to invite Harmonize and Rayvanny. She ambushed me that she wanted to visit Diamond. Since this was a lifetime opportunity, I quickly dressed up and accompanied her. However, this was not the first time I had met Diamond,”  she adds.

Khadija then requested Diamond to listen to her daughter telling him that if Zuchu did not measure up she would not budge.

“I was slotted in for an interview and did the first song which was not loved but the second one was accepted and the song was Wana,” she admits.

However recently, the two announced that they were dating after denying their love affair for quite some time.

Diamond not only shared photos and videos of the two of them making out but also wore his heart on his sleeve and bore it all to the world telling Zuchu the three words any woman would love to hear from the person they care about.

In a TikTok video that had since gone viral, Zuchu-born Zuhura Othman was asked point-blank whether Diamond was her boyfriend.

“Is this him?” Her friend asked while showing a picture of Diamond. Zuchu looked at the picture before admitting that he was indeed her lover. “Yes, that is my ‘boyfriend’,” she said.
