3 Kenyan male make-up artists making waves on TikTok
Female make-up artists have mostly dominated the make-up scene. However, there are a few men who have shown their interest in this particular area and are unapologetic.
They have impressively proven that other than women, men can also wear make-up and look twice as good.

Dennis Karuri
Dennis is a man in his mid-twenties doing the most in the make-up scene. He found his passion after school and decided to go through with it.
Whatever he studied in school and whatever he is doing currently are two different worlds. At Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, he pursued a course in Agribusiness.
Now, he is a much sought-after makeup artist.
He chose this path because it was his passion and he has really showcased his undying love for fashion and make-up, if you take a look at his work you can see that he has made it all clear with no questions asked.

He did not just become a pro overnight. He started somewhere and worked hard to become who is currently. He has worked with great clients who have supported his work by recommending him as a great makeup artist, thus mounting his client circle.
He markets his make-up brand mostly by cross-dressing and wearing make-up and showcasing his great work giving his business gain a competitive advantage.
He has faced questions on his sexuality but has assured people questioning him that he only wears make-up to market his brand.

Creative Phil
This is another bold make-up artist not so different from Dennis Karuri. His real name is Philip Murithi.
He is the CEO and founder of Phildo creations, a studio he uses for his business to create content.
Creative Phil joined the make-up industry in 2018 after he saw the work of a make-up artist in one of King Kaka’s songs, which captivated him into joining the make-up industry.
He started by enrolling at Rose Training School and started his makeup classes. After he was done, he was hired by Switch TV as a make-up artist and worked there for seven months.
His clients have appreciated his work. He has worked with celebrities like Mwikali, Kush Tracey Foi Wambui, Jackie Matubia, and many others.

His makeup skills have elevated him in the beauty business circles and led him to bag a nomination for The East Africa Fashion Awards. He was the only male make-up artist alongside female nominees, giving him full recognition.
Creative Phil has a YouTube channel where he uploads his make-up tutorials, and just like Dennis Karuri, he markets his make-up skills by experimenting with his face.

Jony hairdresser
He is an expert in both make-up and hairdressing and the founder of Jony Hair Designer, he is an alumnus of Ashley’s hair Academy and graduated with first-class honors and an A in make-up with the help of a scholarship from Kenya Commercial Bank.
He is passionate about make-up in all categories and is looking forward to expanding his brand. He works at one of the best media and production houses in Kenya, working with prominent celebrities.
