Touching moments as Gen Ogolla’s body arrives in Kisumu (Photos)
By Winnie OnyandoIt was a very sad and emotional moment as the body of General Francis Ogolla arrived at the Kisumu airport.
Today, April 21, the Siaya community gathered at Senator Obama Primary School to bid farewell to General Ogolla, a revered figure known for his service and leadership.
The funeral programme, meticulously planned to honour General Ogolla’s legacy, includes various ceremonies and tributes that reflect the profound impact he had on those around him.
General Ogolla is survived by his widow, Aileen Kathambi Ogolla, and two children, Lorna Achieng’ Omondi and Joel Rabuku Omondi Ogolla, as well as his daughter-in-law, Muthoni Njenga Mwaura, and grandson, Taji Mbarara.
The day’s events are as follows:
At dawn, the sombre procession began as the mortal remains of General Francis Ogolla left Mashujaa Funeral Home on their final journey to Embakasi OIC Burial.
Two hours later, at 8:00 am, the solemn convoy arrived at Kisumu Airport where it was received with reverence and solemnity by those gathered to receive it.
By 9 am, guests had gathered at Senator Obama Primary School in the tranquil village of Ngi’ya, Siaya County, to bid farewell to the departed soul.
At 9:30 am, the procession reached its destination, marking the beginning of the poignant funeral service at the primary school compound.
As the clock struck 9:45, dignitaries including the esteemed Chief of Defence Staff graced the venue with their presence to pay homage to the revered General. President William Ruto and First Lady Mama Rachel also arrived ahead of the service and were received by Siaya Governor James Orengo.
From 10:00 am the air was filled with solemnity as the funeral service unfolded.
The solemn mass will feature heartfelt prayers, poignant eulogies and moving tributes from family, friends, church, military and government officials.
In the afternoon, the military will take over and conduct funeral rites and burial ceremonies. A procession to the burial site at Mor Village will follow. Only close family and friends will access the graveside.
General Ogolla will be honoured with a 19-gun salute followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
