Cop fires shot at bar owner over beer debt at Narok pub

Police in Narok County are investigating an incident in which their colleague attempted to shoot a bar owner who took his phone over a Sh2,220 debt.

The incident, which was reported by a member of the public at Lolgorian Police Station, is yet another case of a rogue officer going berserk.

The officer, identified as Dennis Imai, who is attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), visited a local wine and spirit shop and a ruckus ensued over the debt.

Ms Jackline Jemeli, who was behind the counter, snatched his phone and demanded he pay before leaving the premises.

“She snatched the smartphone for non-payment of the previous beer bill of Sh2,220,” reads part of a police report seen by this reporter.

With a lot of bitterness after a heated exchange over the phone, the officer left and went back to the RDU camp.

He returned to the wines and spirit location and provocatively demanded his mobile phone back and when the attendant refused to give it back, he went ahead and fired a round.

“He was quickly taken away by the bodaboda driver who was waiting a few metres away,” the report added.

As soon as the matter was reported, Lolgorian police officers visited the scene.

They searched for the spent cartridge but were unable to retrieve it. The report said it was suspected that the officer had picked it up before fleeing the scene.

“No one was injured during the incident and the search for the spent cartridge is ongoing at the scene,” the report added.

However, no one was injured during the incident and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Transmara are investigating the matter.
