Renowned Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has cited concerns over fairness and transparency as his reason for shunning music awards in his country.
In an interview with the Tanzanian media, Diamond also shared his frustrations with the state of music awards in Tanzania.
“You know why I said I wouldn’t participate? The awards are conducted in a manner that lacks fairness,” he said.

The celebrated artiste also said he believes his right to be recognised based on merit rather than favoritism.
“Often the committee planning these awards wants to control you as an artiste. At this point, I can’t participate in that,” he said.
The celebrated artiste also pointed out how much commercialisation has transformed the music industry at the expense of genuine talent.

This is not the first time Diamond has addressed the issue of local awards. In 2022, he refuted claims that his wealth was the sole reason for his success.
Diamond attributed his achievements to his talent and dedication to his craft.
“I am talented and that is why my music sells. It’s not because I am rich,” he said back then.
