‘Githeri man’ checks into rehab after Uhuru’s intervention – PHOTOS
Martin Kamotho Njenga, christened the ‘Githeri man’ and who became a trending topic on social media during the election period, has checked into rehab for alcohol addiction.
This is according to Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba who claims to have received instructions from State House to trace his whereabouts and admit him to a rehab.
Ms Wamuchomba claimed ‘Githeri man’ had contacted the president’s handlers on Wednesday at Jacaranda Grounds, in Donholm, and expressed his desire to turn a new leaf.

‘Githeri man’ reportedly told President Kenyatta’s aides of his struggles with alcohol addiction.
“Today, (Thursday) I embarked on a mission to trace him from his rural home in Kiambururu in Githunguri, traced his relatives who helped located him in Kayole,” Ms Wamuchomba wrote on Facebook.
She shared pictures of a frail looking ‘Githeri man’ when she went to pick him up and admitted him at Mama Care Addiction and Recovery Center.

“I thank HE the President for taking interest in such a humble man and finding solution. I pray that his stay at the rehab will give him a chance to gain sobriety and rediscover his purpose in life,” she added.
Mr Njenga waltzed his way into the limelight to become Kenya’s biggest celebrity just for munching a simple meal of githeri while queuing to cast his vote during the August 8 general election.
What followed was fame and good fortune. Unsolicited goodies started coming his way from leading mobile network operator Safaricom, while other Kenyan corporate practically fell over themselves just to get a piece of him.

He got free holiday trips and new suits that transformed him from the haggard man in an ill-fitting checked blazer to a suave, streetwise, sharp dresser.
A Head of State Commendation during 2017 Jamhuri Day celebrations capped off the roller-coaster ride had been riding.
Njenga will now spend the next three months at the rehab to try and recover.
