Gumo’s son arrested for ‘causing death by dangerous driving’

A son of former Westlands MP Fred Gumo, Magero Gumo, was on Wednesday arrested for jumping bail in a case he is accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Magero was arrested at the Kibera law courts as he sought to have the warrant lifted.

The case is set for mention on September 12.

A magistrate ordered he remanded until Thursday when he will be produced in court.

A Kibera court had issued a warrant of arrest after Magero skipped sessions including a visit to the scene of the accident along Waiyaki Way.

BLOCK HIS ARREST

Last Month, he lost a bid to block his arrest.

Justice Luka Kimaru directed him to appear before the magistrate and defend himself.

On Wednesday, his lawyers moved to court seeking to have the warrant lifted but their client was arrested by police officers who were executing the warrant.

During the accident on Waiyaki way on April 3 2015, a court prosecutor Victor Kabaka Inyanje lost his life.

Several passengers in other vehicles and a matatu were also injured.

He has denied causing the death of  Inyanje by reckless driving.

He allegedly drove his car dangerously on Waiyaki Way and hit Inyanje’s car, causing a grisly accident.

He is also to be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
