Service providers for Nairobi athletics event yet to be paid

Service providers who worked on credit during the IAAF World U-18 Championships in Nairobi in August are increasingly frustrated over delay in receiving payments from government, Nairobi News understands.

Ironically, the revelation comes barely a day after the government confirmed having paid off all service providers who worked on credit during the five-day international competition staged at the Kasarani Stadium in August.

“Everyone has been paid. If there is someone who hasn’t received payments then they know why,” Sports PS Peter Kaberia said during a press briefing at his office on Thursday.

However, this doesn’t seem to be the case, with Nairobi News reliably informed that members of the event’s Local Organizing Committee are among those that are yet to receive payments.

“The LOC was supposed to head for a retreat to finalise a post-competition report for the government. This will not happen unless they are paid their allowances,” our source revealed.

Kenya finished the championships in fourth place, behind South Africa, China and Cuba at this competition which was patronized by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
