Two killed, several injured in Embu road accident
Two people lost their lives while nine others sustained injuries after a Nissan matatu they were traveling in lost control and rolled at Difathas along Nairobi-Embu Highway in Kirinyaga county on Sunday.
The matatu, which belongs to Memba Sacco, was heading towards Meru from Nairobi when the accident occurred.
According to Mr David Kamau, who witnessed the accident, the speeding matatu was attempting to avoid hitting an oncoming Toyota probox ferrying miraa. It is then that after the vehicle overturned and was hit by the probox.
Most of the victims are said to have sustained head injuries, including the probox driver, who is a teacher at a local school.

“The matatu was speeding and things appeared to happen very fast. The driver was overtaking another vehicle and met the probox. As the driver attempted to evade, he lost control of the car which overturned. The vehicle was also hit by a probox emerging from the market,” said Mr Kamau.
Embu traffic boss John Luganda who was among the rescuers said that the two passengers died on the spot while nine are recuperating at Embu Children’s Hospital, Tenri.
Area residents had a difficult time trying to help passengers stuck inside the matatu which had been extensively dented on impact.
