Why Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi is taking a break from harambees
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has announced a sabbatical from public engagements, citing the misuse of his participation in events such as harambees against him.
In a statement on his social media platform, X, on Sunday, Sudi explained his decision in light of the recent controversies surrounding the Finance Bill 2024 and the backlash he has faced.
The Finance Bill 2024 has ignited significant debate among legislators, with Sudi finding himself at the centre of the storm.
His business, Timba XO night club in Eldoret was vandalised and looted by angry protesters.
In response, Sudi posted a series of videos on social media refuting these claims and asserting that he had amassed most of his wealth at a young age.
“In response to the uproar over the harambee events I’ve attended, I want to clarify that I never contributed Sh20 million as alleged,” Sudi stated.
“In fact, the church had raised Sh14 million and we topped it up with contributions from friends.”
Sudi also recounted his entrepreneurial journey, sharing:
“I bought my first Range Rover when I was 22 years old.”
He recalled his entrepreneurial journey, walking at the age of 14 and starting his first business selling fruit, and urged critics to stop the uproar over the alleged waste of money in the fundraising drive.
“From now on, I will refrain from participating in any fundraisers as they have been misused to tarnish good intentions. Let them be banned,” Sudi declared.
“The current situation in the country calls for reflection, and therefore, I am taking a sabbatical from public engagements.”
He indicated that his sabbatical leave would last for a year or two, after which he would make a final decision about his political career.
This announcement comes shortly after Sudi suspended all his development activities in response to the recent violence in Eldoret, which affected both public and private properties.
