Shock as mother kills stepson over plate of githeri

An eight-year-old boy has been killed in cold blood — over a Sh30 plate of githeri.

Preston Magamu was given the money by a neighbour to buy her the githeri, only to return empty handed saying he had lost the money.

Shocked neighbours said the enraged woman stormed Preston’s home in Kawangware demanding a refund from the boy’s stepmother.

The stepmother then questioned the boy about the loss before a scuffle ensued. He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he died from what appeared to be knife wounds.

Family friend Josephine Vunyinde said Preston’s father, Alex Magamu, had gone to her house to chat with her husband, when his wife called him to report that Preston was bleeding profusely.

She went on: “When we arrived at the house, we found that the boy had been taken to Kenyatta National Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.”

Preston, a Standard Three pupil at Neemlano Academy, in Kawangware, had been living with his father and step mother in Soko Mjinga village, after his parents separated.

The couple has been married for the past two years and have another child, a one-year-old daughter.

Preston’s biological mother lives in Western Kenya.

Dagoretti OCPD Rashid Muhammed said the stepmother was in custody helping the police with their inquiries.
