Gor Mahia’s Aucho misses out on Aberdeen opportunity

Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho is not joining Scottish club Aberdeen, yet.

The Scottish club confirmed this development on Wednesday afternoon, in a short message to the Kenyan Premier League that has been seen by Nairobi News.

However, Aberdeen’s sporting director Steven Dunn has indicated the club will continue monitoring the player’s progress and development, with a view to making a move in the future.

“The player (Aucho) will be flying back home tomorrow (Thursday). He will not be offered a contract during this window, but we are still on his case,” Dunn stated.

Aucho, a Ugandan international, has been based in Scotland for the past fortnight, a period in which he trained with the top flight club’s first team and featured in two friendly matches.

Multiple sources privy to the details of the project told Nairobi News that the holding midfielder generally impressed Aberdeen’s technical team during the technical assessment, but was not considered a significant upgrade to the options currently at the club’s disposal.

However, the former Tusker FC midfielder still remains in demand, with a number of clubs in South Africa, Sweden and Qatar eyeing his signature.

“There is an offer already on the table from one club in South Africa, another team wants him for trials immediately he jets back, Gor Mahia also has several inquiries. I think this interest highlights best the quality of this player,” the player’s Kenyan manager George Bwana stated.

Aucho is still contracted to Gor Mahia until December 31, 2017.
