Harambee Starlets on the verge of historic feat
Football fans will have the opportunity to cheer on the national women’s team in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at no fee when Harambee Starlets tackle Algeria on Tuesday at Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced that there will be no gate charges for fans who wish to watch the match which could potentially earn the Kenyan team a historic berth at the continental championship.
“We are on the brink of a great result and to achieve this, we need fans to turn up in large numbers to support out girls,” FKF Chief Executive Officer Robert MuthomI said in a statement sent to newsrooms.
The Starlets are considered slight favourites to qualify for the event for the first time ever after managing a 2-2 draw away in Algiers in the first leg match on Friday night.
GOOD CHANCE
The Kenyan team now requires a goalless draw, a 1-1 draw or a win of any kind to guarantee safe passage to the Africa Nations Cup which will be hosted by Cameroon in November.
“We have a good chance to eliminate them (Algeria). The girls now know what to expect on Tuesday night and we will prepare accordingly and leave nothing to chance,” Starlets coach David Ouma told Nairobi News when the team returned from Algeria over the weekend.
The Algerian team has also arrived in the country for Tuesday’s match whose kick off time is 4pm.
Starlets positive performances has lifted the local fans’ spirit especially in the wake of poor results by the senior men’s national team.
