Police theory: How Joseph Irungu attempted to commit suicide after Monica Kimani’s murder
The main suspect in Monica Kimani’s murder, Joseph Irungu, may have attempted to take his own life moments before police arrested him and charged him with murder, it has now emerged.
According to Citizen TV, details from highly placed sources indicate that Irungu may have shot himself in an apparent suicide attempt inside TV anchor Jacque Maribe’s house.
Irungu and Maribe, who is his girlfriend, have both been arrested as police piece up crucial evidence on the gruesome murder of the 29-year-old Monica.
At the same time, sources indicate the gun suspected to have been used by Irungu has been discovered following a 24-hour search in three houses around Nairobi.
MURDER PUZZLE
The search is said to have been conducted under the watchful eye of Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti.
The lingering puzzle of the gunshot wound on the left side of Irungu’s shoulder has preoccupied the investigative team since his arrest.
The suspect insists he was shot by runaway gangsters.
And in another breakthrough, the owner of the gun, who police sources say is one Brian Kassaine Spira, has also been arrested.
It has further been revealed that partially burnt clothes have also been discovered behind the house in Langata where the shooting is said to have taken place. The remains of the clothing have been taken for DNA testing.
