KNH in row with family of dead patient

The Kenyatta National Hospital Board has moved to court to protest an order to compensate the family of a patient following a malpractice complaint.

The hospital’s board has sued the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) over the tussle that was ignited by the death of Esther Gathoni Ngatia in April 1 last year.

She was admitted at Kenyatta Hospital on March 23, 2015 with injuries sustained in a road accident.

Her entry form at the hospital was allegedly marked red at the top, indicating that she needed urgent medical attention.

Her family took a complaint to the KMPDB which agreed that the hospital was at fault for Ms Gathoni’s death.

The hospital now wants court to quash the decision directing it to compensate the family of the deceased.
