Monster dad, neighbour vanish after defiling disabled girls

Police are looking for two men believed to have defiled and impregnated two disabled girls, one of whom contracted HIV/Aids.

One of the victims, a 12-year-old blind girl, is said to have been defiled by her father in Mombasa.

The other, a 15-year-old mentally handicapped girl, was reportedly defiled by a neighbour in Kilifi and infected with HIV/Aids, according to a medical report seen by the Nation.

The girls’ close relatives say they were turned away by different rescue centres due to their disabilities and pregnancy.

STILL AT LARGE

Civil society groups on Monday called for the arrest of the pair, still at large weeks after the girls’ cases were reported to the police.

“We are investigating the matter. We suspect the culprit went to Kisii County but we will catch up with him,” Kisauni police boss Christopher Rotich said.

The girl from Mariakani Sub-County is five months pregnant and is taking anti-retroviral drugs provided by Coast General Hospital, Mombasa.

She puts up at Uhuru Gardens with her mother who is a beggar.

“We don’t have a place to stay,” the girl’s mother said. “Police are looking for the suspect but we are afraid he might hurt us.”

The Mombasa victim is almost seven months pregnant.

PARENTS SEPARATED

According to a source, the girl’s parents separated several years ago.

“Two daughters remained with their father who abused them sexually. Unfortunately, he impregnated the blind one,” a teacher at a public special school said.

The girl who wants to be a teacher said circumstances had made her drop out of school.

The officer in charge of gender and children at Muslims for Human Rights Commission, Topista Juma, advised women who separate with spouses to remain with their children.

Ms Juma said she was alerted by the school administration immediately teachers realised the girl was expectant.

She said she went to search for a rescue centre for the minors but the institutions turned her request down.

THREAT TO GIRLS

“They said it would be difficult to take care of disabled and pregnant children,” she said, adding that the two suspects were a threat to girls.

During a workshop on amplifying women voices in ICT at English Point Marina, Mombasa on Monday, Ms Juma urged leaders to put up a rescue centre for sexually abused disabled victims.

Mr John Walubengo, a lecturer at Multimedia University, urged women to embrace ICT when fighting for such victims.
