Omtatah challenges Ruto: ‘Table evidence of judiciary bribery!’
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has strongly refuted President William Ruto’s claims of bribery within the Judiciary, distancing himself from any knowledge of such activities among his colleagues.
In a bold statement, Senator Omtatah directly challenged President Ruto to present any evidence he might have regarding bribery allegations against judges or litigants.
“I look him straight in the eye and challenge him to table the evidence of bribe-taking against any judge or bribe-giving he has against any litigant and let the chips fall where they may,” declared Omtatah.
Defending the independence of the Judiciary, the Senator emphasised that every organ of government and every resident of Kenya is subject to the law.
He underscored the importance of the rule of law in maintaining democracy in the country.
President Ruto’s recent allegations of corruption within the judiciary have raised concerns about the independence of this vital institution.
Senator Omtatah urged the President to reconsider his stance, warning against a return to the tumultuous days of the 2007/2008 post-election violence, which was fueled by a lack of confidence in the Judiciary.
Calling for reflection and a change of approach, Omtatah appealed to the President to acknowledge the crucial role he plays in the Kenyan state as the Chief Executive.
He suggested that President Ruto should apologise to the Judiciary and seek forgiveness from Kenyans, especially considering his commitment to safeguarding the Constitution of Kenya when assuming power.
However, President Ruto, as indicated in a recent statement, remains steadfast in his belief of corrupt officials within the judiciary and expressed determination to root them out during his presidency.
