A former Ugandan police officer is in trouble with the authorities after being accused of eating a meal of chapati and eggs and refusing to pay.

In a development that has excited sections of Ugandans on social media, the New Vision newspaper is reporting that Mohammed Kirumira, who until recently was the Buyende District Police Commander (DPC), has been charged with abuse of office in relation to this incident.

He is alleged to have eaten the meal, commonly referred to in Kampala as ‘rolex’, which was the property of one Joseph Bukenya.

The meal, which comprises fried eggs rolled inside a chapati, retails for about UGX1,700 in Kampala (Sh60).

“I want to tell this court that Afande Kirumira is a bad person. He used to eat people’s things without paying. He also ate my rolex and he did not pay me. I was operating a chapati stall at the time,” said Bukenya.

If found guilty, Kirumira faces upto six years in jail.
