Raila edits Twitter bio with new status as ‘president’

Nasa leader Raila Odinga risks losing his verification blue tick for editing his Twitter bio to state that he is the “President of the Republic of Kenya.”

According to the Twitter guidelines on loss of verified status, a user may lose the blue tick without notice on various grounds.

The first reason for removal is listed as, “Intentionally misleading people on Twitter by changing one’s display name or bio.”

Odinga’s new bio stating that he is the President of the Republic of Kenya may be reported as misleading by users causing him to lose the blue tick.

Also edited is Odinga’s bio on Wikipedia, which states that he is “a Kenyan politician who is a non-impostor current president of the Republic.”

‘PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT’

Odinga took the oath of office on Tuesday afternoon during a ‘swearing in’ ceremony at Uhuru Park that made him the “People’s President”.

An interview on KTN an hour to the ceremony, Mr Odinga promised to explain on what basis he was being sworn in.

And shortly after being sworn in, Odinga said he would share his speech through the media, adding that an announcement on what would follow next would be made in due course.

Kalonzo Musyoka, whose absence during the ceremony was explained by Odinga, has however not edited his bio on Twitter.

This even as Odinga stated that Kalonzo would be sworn in later and circumstances as to why he could not make it explained then.

Kalonzo’s bio reads, “10th Vice President of the Republic of Kenya (2008 – 2013).”
