Rosemary Odinga speaks on losing her eyesight

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s eldest daughter, Rosemary Odinga, says she is on the road to recovery after suffering a mild stroke which left her partially blind.

Rosemary made her first public appearance in over a year on Tuesday, when she visited the Raila Odinga Educational Centre in Nairobi accompanied by two aides who supported her to walk.

“Since my operation and losing my sight, I’m happy people are welcoming and I am now getting confident in how I interact with people and communicate,” she said.

Rosemary donated 60 sewing machines to the institution which trains women on income generating activities.

Rosemary has been receiving treatment since suffering the stroke in February 2017.

The ailment left her bedridden in Nairobi and later South Africa for several months, forcing her to publicly withdraw from contesting the Kibra Parliamentary seat in last year’s elections.

Her ailment represents a double blow for the Odinga family following the untimely death of Fidel Odinga in early 2015.
