Finally, Ruto to get his PhD from the University of Nairobi

By OUMA WANZALA November 28th, 2018 1 min read

Deputy President William Ruto will graduate with a doctorate in plant ecology from the University of Nairobi next month, after six years of study.

His name, alongside six others, was approved by the university Senate last Thursday during a session chaired by Vice-chancellor Peter Mbithi and attended by acting Deputy Vice-chancellor, Academic Affairs, Julius Ogeng’o, among others.

This means that from December 21, the DP, who refers to himself as a hustler, will be referred to as Dr William Ruto.

THESIS TITLE

His thesis is titled “Influence of human activities on land use changes on environmental quality of riparian ecosystems: A case study of Saiwa Swamp watershed, Western Kenya”.

Mr Ruto’s project was approved in August 2012, and he submitted his thesis in September this year. He did his oral examination on October 2, and his report was approved the following day.

FAILED TO GRADUATE

Mr Ruto has already published his work in two renowned journals — the International Journal of Research in Environmental Science and The Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution — as required by the Commission for University Education (CUE), which regulates university education.

In 2016, Mr Ruto failed to graduate because he had not met all the coursework requirements. The DP has a Bachelor’s degree in botany and zoology and a Master’s degree in plant ecology.
