Zarika to face US opponent

Kenya’s Fatuma Zarika will next month face off with the US’ Natasha Spencer in a 10-round super bantam weight bout on November 30.

The fight will be curtain raised by Jane Kavulani’s feather weight bout against another American, Tyriesha Douglas.

Charity Mukami’s also has a date with South Africa’s Julie Tshabalala in the super welter weight.

The venue will be announced at a later date.

Foreign boxers will arrive on November 25 to acclamatise before taking to the ring.

Zarika is the world bantam weight champion, and will be looking to add a feather to her cap.

She has widely been viewed by Kenyans as Conjestina Achieng’s successor in the boxing world.

The event has been organised by controversial promoter Caleb Kuya, who was suspended and his license revoked in 2011 after several boxers under his stable accused him of not honouring pledges.

Daima Milk has pledged sh400,000 to go towards offsetting the sh2.3 million needed to fund the bouts, while Kuya is hoping for a good show from fans to raise part of the money.
Zarika last year retained the bantam weight title after a fight against Uganda’s Hawa Duka failed to materialize. Promoter Geoffrey Kabugu allegedly disappeared with funds expected to run the event, leading to its cancellation. Her belt was also reported stolen at the Central Police Station after the same promoter claimed he had misplaced it.
