Raila’s late arrival at Labour Day celebration explained
Cord has defended the move by its leader Raila Odinga to arrive at the Labour Day party celebrations later than President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Odinga, a former Prime Minister, was caught on camera arriving at the function at Uhuru Park when President Kenyatta and his entourage was already seated and the function well underway.
Some political analysts have termed the development as a “disrespectful” of the Presidency on the part of the opposition leader.
But Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has claimed that the former Prime Minister’s late arrival was occasioned by a last minute change of schedule by those involved in planning the event.
“We were formally invited for that event. The invitation card indicated we should be seated by 11am,” Omar said.
“Add then, someone calls us on the morning of the function and says the President will be at Uhuru Park much earlier than indicated. We tried to reschedule but unfortunately that wasn’t possible. So don’t blame Cord,” he added.
The event was hurriedly run and ended at about 11:30am, two hours ahead of time.
President Kenyatta even failed to read his speech. In his off-the-cuff speech the President said he had “many other things to do on the day.”
