Caf unhappy with Kenya’s preparations for Chan

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has voiced its displeasure with Kenya’s slow preparations for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (Chan).

Kenya was granted the hosting rights for the continental football showpiece in 2014, but up until now – five months to kick-off – none of the four stadiums earmarked for this tournament meets the minimum requirements set by Caf.

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa confirmed Caf’s stance on Saturday, in an interview with NTV.

“Caf fried me recently (at the Caf Symposium in Morocco). The works have not gone at the planned pace and they are unhappy with that, Mwendwa said.

BANNED

The Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Kinoru Stadium in Meru, Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos alongside the Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums in the capital have been earmarked as hosting venues of the three-week continental championship.

Mwendwa also confirmed that Caf will be making a final inspection visit-cum-decision making trip to Kenya in August.

It has been widely rumoured in the past two months that Caf is on the verge of taking away the hosting rights from Kenya.

Should this happen, Kenya will risk being banned from participating in the competition for two consecutive tournaments.
