ATPU takes over probe on Garden City mall bomb scare

The Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) has taken over investigations into an incident at Garden City mall in which a man attempted to smuggle a suspected explosive device.

Police insist the device was not an improvised explosive device after no explosive ingredients were discovered in it.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi had told Nairobi News that the man, together with two accomplices, were intercepted at 3:30pm Tuesday trying to walk into the mall while carrying the device.

“One of them was carrying the materials and he attempted to run away upon being stopped. The others were with him and we are investigating their association with the suspect,” Mr Mboloi said.

The three are Kenyans but had no identification documents.

The three are being interrogated by ATPU.
