Big day for teachers as Labour Court set to rule on strike
The Labour Court will on Tuesday make a decision on a request by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the government to stop the ongoing teachers’ strike
The decision would be made by Justice Nelson Abuodha of the Employment and Labour Relations Court.
TSC and the government want the Labour Court to suspend the ongoing teachers’ strike until a case they have filed challenging its legality is heard and determined.
Justice Monica Mbaru, also of the labour court, had on September 4 stated that the strike is unprotected
TSC’s lawyer Geoffrey Obura, and the government, through State counsel Emmanuel Bitta argued that allowing an unprotected strike to proceed would amount to violating the rights of the children in public schools.
