Chaos as Umoja residents protest poor roads

Residents of Umoja II estate on Monday blocked a section of Moi Drive Road to protest its poor condition.

The angry residents blocked the road by burning bonfires as they engaged anti-riot police in running battles.

Buruburu OCPD Geoffrey Mayeke confirmed to Nairobi News that the 7am chaos affected commuters going to work.

A picture of the chaos posted on Facebook elicited angry reaction from netizens who blamed the county government for the deteriorating state of roads in the estate.

Others blamed area MP George Theuri for the poor state of the road.

Here is a sample of their responses.

Douglas Daggy Gitari; “Very sad that our leaders @ the County level don’t care about the people on the ground and the importance of having paved roads. If we had a prudent and visionary representative this could have been avoided though it was inevitable and the protest was always in the minds of people. We need developmental agenda for our community. Tumechoka kupimwa wazimu.”

James Wambugu; ” good job umoja 2 residents put pressure on this indolent leaders.”

Fred Deefre; “@theuri…alienda aka lala?isorite isokey……voters card iko valid.”

Winny Twirl; “Theuri ameemploy goons wa kutukana watu Facebook..isorite they have their mouths we have our numbers.

Kevin Tosh Rabbz; ” Kabla ya kutengeneza important issue kama barabara theuri ako busy updating status ati anajenga swimming pool…construction on going……pande ya outering ukiingia pale buru phase 1 the road is even worse hadi inaleta jam..theuri na mbatia wanaangusha watu ile serious.”
