DJs tell off Kenyan artistes over MAMAs flop

The chairman of Kenya DJs Association, DJ Gordo, is now calling out Kenyan top artistes, accusing them of chasing other goals instead of keeping Kenyan music in the international platforms.

Referring to the just concluded MTV Africa Music awards held in Durban, South Africa, DJ Gordo said on his post that the people who should be representing Kenya in such awards are busy chasing CMO (Collective Management Organisations) cash.

The CMOs in Kenya include Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), Performance Rights Society of Kenya (Prisk) and Kenya Association of Music Producers (Kamp).

On his Facebook post, Gordo says refers to when MAMAs started in 2008, Kenya won Best Female award, when Wahu brought it home.

In 2009, Kenyan own in three categories and among the winners were Nameless and Amani. In 2010, Daddy Owen won the Best Anglophone song award…but Kenya only had Sauti Sol in this year’s awards, and they didn’t win.

It is public knowledge that among the directors at Prisk are top musicians like Nameless, Nonini, R Kay, Angela Ndambuki (Tattu), SK Blu, among others. Could he be calling out these artistes in this post?
