This little girl wanted Pope Francis’ skullcap – VIDEO

A little girl who took off Pope Francis’ skullcap during the Wednesday audience meet up has broken the internet.

Only two hours after the video of her cheeky act was uploaded by her godfather on Twitter, it has been shared over 1000 times.

The three-year-old identified by CNN as Estella Westrick was in Rome to visit her godfather when she was taken to meet the Pope.

Her godfather Mountain Butorac told CNN, “Right before she went up she was a little nervous. Then she stole his hat. It was hilarious, everyone was laughing including the Pope.”

The little caps worn by the clergy are called zucchettos, an Italian name for them and the Pope is the only one who dons the white one while cardinals wear red and bishops purple ones.

According to an explanatory article on, the zucchettos were originally used by clergy members hundreds of years ago because when they took a vow of celibacy a ring of hair was cut off their heads.

The skullcaps were used to cover that part of the head to retain body heat.
