Hope for Harambee Starlets
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has promised to cater for all expenses of the national women football team, ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games qualifier against South Africa set for next month.
The team, under tutelage of coach David Ouma, defeated Botswana on the away goal rule after the two-leg tie ended 2-2 during the last stage of the competition last month.
The result against Botswana has however been overshadowed by reports that the team prepared for that tie under deplorable conditions.
“I received a call from Waiguru and she has promised to facilitate the team’s camping needs,” Sports Kenya Chairman Fred Muteti said.
It remains unclear however, as to if Waiguru will be using her own funds or those from her Ministry to bail out the Harambee Starlets.
The responsibility of maintaining this team constitutionally belongs to the Ministry of Sports and Football Kenya Federation.
